Yes, there are quite a few tips like this all over the place in vintage computing. Jiggling the keypin (with some force) of an apple IIe key to get it working is another such one. Every model has common things that go wrong when they age and some people know what to do to alleviate them.
In saying that, VCF is well indexed in google. When you do have a problem there is a good chance you find a post with a solution anyway.
