Hey all! I just bought a 286 clone off eBay (branded Expo 286). Finally got to cleaning the whole system up (and removing the 2 or 3 living creatures inside the case, eek). The system came with a Paradise PVGA card, but I wanna put in a CGA board so I can play low-res CGA games on there correctly (Round 42, haha). While still using the VGA card, I went into the BIOS and set the video mode to "Color 80". I threw in the CGA board (an original IBM adaptor) and turned the computer back on, but all that happens is the CGA monitor puts up a white image that flickers and jumps up and down. Is there some DIP switch on the motherboard I'm forgetting to set? The mobo has 4 switches: HISPEED, IOHALFSP, RSEL0, and RSEL1 (all are set to off). Any help would be greatly appreciated! I bought this 286 specifically so I could play Digger full speed and so that I could put the MDA board back in my XT (which was using the HX12 monitor and IBM CGA board) and have 1 vintage computer with only IBM parts. Thanks again!

Ahh… Figures five minutes after I post this I figure out the problem. I recently also bought a spare MDA board on eBay. Turns out I reached for the MDA board and thew that in the 286 then attempted to connect that to the CGA monitor. How embarrassing :(. The picture that I put up and labeled as "IBM CGA board" is, in fact, an MDA board. Someone please delete this thread, haha. Sorry for wasting everyone's time!

The mobo has 4 switches: HISPEED, IOHALFSP, RSEL0, and RSEL1 (all are set to off).

I have a MYLEX 80286 motherboard with these 4 switches as well. I have HISPEED and RSEL0 set to ON which gives me full CPU speed for both my 286 and 287XL coprocessor, and access to 640K of memory. I think we may have the same motherboard type!

/BUMP for and oldie but goodie
