Slow running Doom with no sound in Win95, great in Dos.

The results of my next test are in:
- Fresh Win95 OSR2B install (no installation of dos first)
- Once in Win 95 there were no sound drivers installed or cdrom drivers
- Can't blame anything on sound or cdrom this test
- Doom runs terrible
- Reboot to Win95 dos mode, doom runs great

Maybe something is broken with the onboard graphics with this old pc. If I had an ISA video card I could test that out.

The next thing that comes to mind (should have been the first thing) is the motherboard chipset drivers. DOS is somewhat dependent (not entirely) on the chipset drivers, but Windows must have the drivers that came with your motherboard for the particular OS that you intend to run. Even if you think they are properly loaded, you may want to double check for the latest drivers for WIN95 and reload.

I'm with AO with it possibly being a driver issue. It could be the stock OEM CD win95 video driver wasn't the flashest. There may well be a newer win95 driver for that available. No harm in trying another card. The onboard video is VLB I think though so in theory anything ISA should be slower. Sometimes that may not bare out in reality though. You can check it out with seat of the pants operation.

As AO mentioned it sounds like you're having hoot of a time.
