I have a large number of laptops that I'm prep'ing for selling and many have 8x TEAC CD-48E CD or 16x CD416E (I think that's right) drives. They do not have the standard laptop Atapi connector. What they do have is a circuit board that extends out of the drive and 3 sets of pins that look more like a laptop PIDE interface plus power plus Master/Slave all connected via one long connector to a ribbon cable that connects to the laptop motherboard. Did any other brands of early laptop CD drives use the same non-atapi interface? They also need a special driver with Win 95 or 98. Did any other early laptops also use these TEAC 8x or 16x drives? They seem to not like burnt CD's, but work fine with OEM CD disks.
