(NO SPOILERS) Not a podcast, but fun to see an IBM PC appear in the Netflix show Three Body Problem during a flash back.

Funnily enough, an IBM PC also appears in the original Chinese version of the show (which is far superior, in my humble opinion...)



Though this flashback does take place in 1979. Deng Xiaoping (just looked it up, Hua Guofeng was the leader at that time...) must've had a pretty good deal with the West in order to get such an early prototype...

Hmm, looks like the monitor has been "repaired." No vents on top and the screen is perfectly flat (LCD?)

The front panel on the case is also weird. It looks like it was cut from a piece of plywood.

not to mention what appears on the screen looks like text that is far to dense to be on a monitor of that spec

It's just a prop that looks similar to an IBM PC, nothing else.

It would be cheaper to buy a real one than build a prop from scratch. Looking again, I think the entire computer is CGI on Netflix.

Is the Chinese version available in English?

I found it with English subtitles while sailing the high seas, but it's apparently also available on a few Western streaming services (presumably with English subtitles).

I was thinking similar, I don't remember IBM having a black and white screen until the PS-2. I could be wrong.

Also the proportions of the case wrt the size of the monitor don't quite click.
