I don't know whether this has been mentioned somewhere else, but I just noticed something that I did not know before: there are actually two variants of the black flipbox of Space Quest 1 AGI! The earlier one, which contained game version 1.0X (dated September 1986), has a line pattern that is difficult to reproduce with normal scanning, which is why I used flash to make a picture:
while the later one, which contained game version 1.1A (dated November 1986), had the line pattern removed and is just plain black:
Here are both side-by-side:
This means that there are four box variants of AGI SQ1: black box with pattern, plain black box, slipcover with screenshot, slipcover without screenshot. One could also count the slipcover with the inverted half-dome as a fifth revision.
