Hi all,

I have this PCI card (which I got in a P2 system, but that is beside the point). Can anyone venture a guess as to what it is? It seems to be from 1994.

It seems 8x8 is a VoIP company now, however this card is interesting from few points:

- it has 2 DSP chips
- it has an Altera Flex chip (presumably a FPGA)
- it has a large 8x8 chip (the only mention I found seems to be an eBay listing)
- it has a hefty chip with a large heatsink on it.

Regards,
Vlad.

Looking more, this seems to be a VoIP card, however I am impressed at the amount of chips on it. I just noticed there is a Xilinx chip on there too. And I am dying to know what is under the heatsink but I do not want to damage the card when removing it.

I have a small pile of these cards, pulled from V-TEL "Interactive Video Classroom" computers (Pentium through P3 era, either white AT style boxes or black ATX boxes). There were several other cards that could sometimes be found in the system, which connected with that ribbon cable at the top of the card. I suspect these were used in some of the big multimedia presentation rooms at Virginia Tech.
