An easy way to handle DOM images.

You need an USB2IDE adapter, like http://www.ebay.nl/itm/USB2-0-USB-T...551026?hash=item282b718232:g:ABcAAOSwCGVX93Y4
and a male to male gender changer cable http://www.ebay.nl/itm/40-Pin-2-inc...319411?hash=item3ce35951b3:g:CkYAAOSws65TpmIS
Don't use an adapter to connect two cables

First open the usb2ide adapter carefully and make a connection between +5 volt and pin 20 from the 40 pin ide-connector.
Now connect the gender changer cable to the adapter and insert a DOM.

Download the HDD-Raw-Copy tool http://hddguru.com/software/HDD-Raw-Copy-Tool/ and run the program.
*) This program can easily be used to backup, restore and exchange CF and SD cards and any kind of removable storage devices.

Choose for source the DOM image *.imgc and as destination the DOM to load the image into. Use 128Mb. DOMs.

You can download an image with many Model II and Model 3,4 files. Not all will run as some of them are hardware dependent.
Just try them. https://www.dropbox.com/s/uyzigm74crgstds/MII-DOM.imgc?dl=0

Of course you can also use this hardware to backup your DOMs.

Hans01,
I'm curious if it will work correctly by powering the DOM from the Molex connector with +5 VDC versus modifying the USB to IDE Adapter?
Have you tried that versus modifying the USB to IDE Adapter? I assume that by using the USB2IDE adapter you are just accessing the
DOM to be able to transfer to and from it. Then, when it's filled, you plug the DOM into another TRS-80 IDE Interface to use it with
the TRS-80's. Is this correct? Where is the TRS-80 IDE interface available from?

Also is it possible to use DOM's larger than 128 Meg?

Thanks.

@Larry

Yes, there is a very tiny connector on the backside of the DOM. There is a special cable to
supply power to the DOM by using a molex connector. You only need the + 5 volt.
The USB2IDE adapter is only to transfer the image in an easy way from a PC to the DOM.
The short cable with two connectors is to make it possible to connect the DOM to the USB2IDE adapter.
To use a DOM on a Model 3,4.4p you need a Lo-Tech IDE adapter. If you want to use the DOM with a Model II, 12, 16
you need a hans-01 or hans-02 adapter with a Lo-Tech IDE adapter or the new DOM-IDE-adapter available from Ian.
All available software is made on a 128 Mb. DOM and in the past there were some problems with other formats.
You can buy the DOMs very cheap (about 1 euro each) at www.pollin.de in Germany.
