Hi! I recently got my hands on a couple of none-working C64c-s and two 1541 disk drives, the first ones I've ever had and tried. The C64s are now back up and running together with one of the 1541s, but the other 1541 seems to still have some issues reading discs. As this is quite a new world to me, there are lots of things to learn and Google is of course a good friend to have.

What has been puzzling me, though, is that, in my endeavour to fix the none-working 1541, I have been reading up on the thing, and I am not able to figure out what the SCR button on the front is for (see attachment)! Google comes up blank. It has probably nothing to do with the drive not working (no difference with it on or off), but it would be nice to know how everything works when troubleshooting. Any good suggestions?

It looks to me like a simple push button and that would mean an extra circuit is needed. I think it is a reset button. One for the drive only or for both the drive and computer.

"SCR" may not mean anything. It may be just a button found at an electronics junk shop back in the day that looked cool. Actually, I bet the person made a great acronym for it! I think you're right tho, it may be a reset switch. Do the wires go to caps?

Definitely a user mod... agree with the above poster that the button was likely a spare scrounged up at some point.
I bet if you post the board number and where the wires go we can figure it out - reset seems logical though.
