What is the oldest CPU (AMD or Intel) that will enable Windows 11 unofficially?

So the OP started the thread then bailed on it completely. And here we are with more of the same modern pcs/OS vs vintage debate... Gotta love this place!

Credit to the OP though, he managed to find the ONE interesting thing to discuss about Windows 11: trying to make it run on appallingly poor hardware. I'm not being sarcastic here, that sounds like a fun day at the beach to me. A lot of this hobbyist stuff is not about "does it work well" or "is it good to use" so much as "does it boot?". That's the most important part.

As for the debate... its hardly a debate at all. Imagine going on a vintage car forum, finding two people discussing a perfectly restored vintage 1970s Ferrari. Then imagine butting in and saying "Well, my 2023 Kia Spectra is faster. So obviously its better. You've obviously never had a good new car if you think that classic car is better."

And then coming back over and over again to try and convince the classic car enthusiasts that a 2023 Kia Spectra is better than their classic cars.

Hardly a debate at all when you frame it like that :p

Dude... read the room. You're trying to brag about a new computer to a bunch of people actively discussing how much better old computers are. Nobody cares about your new top-end system. @VERAULT 's 486 is more interesting.
Don't try to turn the table around. Yeah, I'm bragging a little but that's no sin. Plenty of gamers care about it, and how is it you appointed yourself to speak for others with "Nobody cares"? When I mentioned my top end system it was only in reference to your demeaning remarks about others forms of personal computing. When it comes to computing, in any form, I do as I please and I always pass my experiences down the line. And, "Dude", tough toe nails if you don't like it. Please have some 'nice' of what's left of the Sunday. Oh, and again, please excuse me while finish up on my latest Corsair iCUE H170i ELITE CAPELLIX XT cooling system (sorry, there I go bragging again).:)

Yeah, I'm bragging a little but that's no sin.
It is, in fact. In every major religion, no less.

But yeah, you and your Kia Spectra must be a hoot over on the classic car forums :ROFLMAO:

Perhaps we should start a modern gaming forum (MGF) and talk about vintage computers there?

I've tried. You get treated about as well as... well, a guy trying to brag about his Kia Spectra on a classic Ferrari forum. Or a guy trying to brag about his modern computer on a vintage forum and getting butt-hurt when people won't stop laughing at him. Or a guy who doesn't understand analogies and can't take a hint.

That's why I love this forum. There's always either something fun to talk about or someone to troll.

I just love a proper discussion. With debate.. sans drama. Leave the drama to the apple forums...
I have thought it'd be entertaining if someone did trials runs on things using the exact minimum system requirements specified.

Ill be honest that doesnt spark my interest one bit. I remember trying to run windows 95 on a 386... I know the outcome.. its not surprising and not interesting.

The nice thing about vintage hardware and software as its now frozen in time. It will always remain as it was and there is comfort in that. Nostalgia even.

I think the real talking point is computers have been stupidly fast for many years now and even a 10+ year old pc should still be able to run the new OS ... But its not "authorized".

And again my point is why would anyone want to run the new OS.

....or listen to new music.
..... Or wear new fashions.
Or do anything to contribute to this godforsaken period in history.. Cheers everybody!

Yeah that is a frustrating and stupid thing. Fortunately there's ways around it.

There is a key difference between "wanting to run it" and seeing if you can boot all he way to the desktop on a 20 year old CPU.

But yes. Most new stuff is pretty underwhelming. Like everything in general just... isn't good anyway.

I really enjoy old gas powered machines and equipment. I always look around to see if anyone is giving away or throwing away some older hardware. I got my 1981 JD tractor that way.
I have a 1960s and early 1970s simplicity snow blowers. They are easy to work on and if cared for will work for a very long time..

Have you seen new snow blowers? They have PLASTIC CHUTES! CHeap ones use those "never chsnge the oil" chinese engines..

They are throw away.. disposable.

New cars feel the same to me.. if I struck it rich id have a couple land yachts restored I can drive around in.. last thing Id want if I had the means would be a new car or truck.

Here's a snap of my Kia Spectra. PM me for the specs.

This is the general problem with a lot of things new. Its not designed to be serviced and its not designed to last. Ironically the tractors used to push refuse around in landfills are newer than a lot of the durable goods being thrown into them.

You don't even have to strike at rich for that. A good, fully-restored land yacht runs out as much as a new Ford Focus. Still more than a Kia, but also a better car.

Don't knock the Spectra; I suspect the survival numbers aren't that great. I always figured if I had silly money, I'd love to find and restore *interesting* but not *enthusiast* cars and bring them to car shows. Find my old boss, with his obsession for Mustangs and GTOs, and pull up in a rebuilt beige 1989 Sonata.

I have both retro machines and an overkill modern PC. The charms are different.

I like that. ,👍
All old cars have charm.. even an amc gremlin or a yugo...

It would be nice to see people restore more avg cars too.

Apparently restoring Trabants is becoming popular. I get it, for all its fault the Train will run forever. Sometimes they get up-engined.. Worth motorcycle engines.

I have tried Win7 and Win10 on the same hardware, and Win10 is definitely faster to load programs. But Win10 also has a bunch of bugs that never seem to get fixed.

With all this talk of Win11 on old computers, has anyone given any thought to having a 32-bit version of Win11? Is such a thing possible?

I have seen a few unrestored still running around central europe. Im Sure lots of people are nostalgic for them. Same for the 3 wheel reliant in Britain.
