Why do you do this? (retro-coding)

Understandable because I see it all too often on the system I use with the idea of use something with more memory, more speed to produce a commercial style product.
I've also seen Atari 8-bit systems with new variations of BASIC to produce some stunning stuff in 10 Lines of BASIC, which translate the high level code into Assembly equivalents. I began writing my own in BASIC when I was unable to follow Tiny BASIC source codes, though I like the concept which Tiny BASIC holds and was something Atari adopted for their BASIC. Tiny BASIC also abbreviates it's code so commands can be abbreviated, Atari BASIC also has this as do Commodore BASIC in a different mould on VIC-20 and C64.
