Bought a box of Atari untested unknown stuff for $15 at the Discovery Shop. Init were lots of 2600 carts, lots more of 600/800 carts, power supplies (doh), 600/800 data cables (doh!), and an Atari 2600Jr! The previous owner must have been experimenting or repairing, cause there were two controllers, one is unknown to me, looks like a joystick and potentiometer combo that has been taken apart, the other was a 2600 type controller that was aftermarket.

To me the gem is the 800 items, plenty of cables and carts. I think I'm fixed for these for a while, heh heh. If the Jr works, that'll be great, too. I haven't listed it all yet (done a proper inventory) but I will.

To me this is a nice haul, provided most of it is functional.

Congrats! That's a major score! If you have any duplicate HW or SW on the Atari computer side, let me know. I supposedly have an Atari 1200 on its way. ;)

No, I'm not selling it all off. I have a few doubles but not gonna sell off the lot. I've never had a Jr. before, though since I can play the games I might let it go. I dunno, it's all up in the air right now until after the end of this semester and it's cleanup. I'll let y'all know.

Had to try :D

Either way glad to see someone winning at their collection attempts. I have found that ebay has been very generous to the Commodore genre, and have been not so impressed with the Atari line -- as of lately at least (for both).

When I have time at home (at work once again right now), I should inventory my stuff. And go to the PO for hexstar :D

Got to break out the 800XL and all the carts work, but neither of the floppy drives do. Since there are two, the switches might need changing but I'll look up the settings later. The power supply that came with it was toast, but the one I got from Brendan trading works great (thanks again!). I didn't mess with the printers yet, but one of two might work (odds that one might work). I'm hoping the smaller one will. My Flashback 2 joystick loves working with it, too!

Next buy for this is the SIO2PC cable. Gotta wait, billz go first :(

Messed with it again today a bit. Got the 1025 printer working, and it seems to work okay. The ribbon that's in it is even good! At first it was a little dry and didn't want to print but after a few times it started to go gray (it's something). The printer supply store down by me should have something for it. Luckily, people around here use printers until they give up the smoke, so there are still supplies in demand.

I was using the Atariwriter cart that came in that box, and it's the most basic word provcessor I have ever seen (my first atari 800xl). One interesting point is that when it prints, the machine becomes unavailable. I cannot remember if the commodore did that or not.

I'm rethinking that sio2pc cable. I found a place that does ram upgrades and also some DOS carts on sale. Using DOS on a cart would be refreshing, cause (I know this is gonna sound weird) floppies are a pain. There are a lot of opptions for this machine, there's now sio2cd, sio2sd(sd card even) and then sio2pc. Wow.

Just wanted to update.

For what its worth, I'm about to order a SIO2SD from Poland, so eventually I may be able to write a review on this forum to guide you whether it is a product worth buying.

Terry,
the ribbon does look really generic; if I run into problems I'll mention that model. The guy at tht store usually just tells me to bring in the old one to match up.
Carlsson,
when you get yours, let me know how it works out, for sure. I'm looking to make the A8 my basic usingmachine, for typing up papers and do basic things. It was gonna be the ST, but that seems to not be working out. There's more development by the gaming community to work up the A8 rather than the super-technical developers of the ST line.

Speaking of which, something I am definitely doing for the A8 is going to this atari developer on atariage, atari8warez, to get a 32-OS-in-one upgrade, along with a ram upgrade. Apparently the 32OS upgrade will let me choose an OS upon booting, and is supposed to make A8'ing easier. Looks pretty promising. Whenever I get a chance to do this, that is.

I'm sorry to say that while I received my unit two weeks ago or so, I still haven't manufactured a cable (needs to cut an existing SIO cable in half) to plug it in. A friend of mine is integrating a SIO2SD into an Atari 1064 shell (memory expansion for the Atari 600XL) and adding the metallic keys from a broken 800XL. The SIO2SD interface has five small buttons for operation, but of course bigger buttons can be soldered in.

Some of these days, I'll get to try it out. I'm sure it will work just fine.
