My daughter is starting to type in her school projects more and more on the computer, and i noticed that her typing speed was painfully slow.
Although i took one course in junior high on typing, and learned the where to put my fingers on the typewriter and all that, i found over the years that i still use the "two finger" method for typing.
perhaps i should have stuck to the proper way of typing, as i am sure i would be more productive, but for a few reasons (one being laziness) i have stayed in two finger mode.
mind you, i found my typing speed increased drastically, after spending a couple of months on GEnie's chat lines, back in the early 90's, as i had to keep up with all the chatting
anyway, i am trying to help my daughter increase her typing speed, and am using two methods.
1) using standard typing programs (like typing fff fff etc..) on a few computers around the house, so she can get used to the feel of different keyboards and get used to where to put her fingers on the keyboards.
2) we play a game, using two computers hooked up to each other over the RS232 ports, where one person starts typing in a sentence, then send the sentence over to the other computer, and then the other person has 20 seconds to finish the sentence and start a new one, and so on.
i am hoping these two techniques will make her more porductive when she types in her reports.
