What is this for? 9pin to 15pin cable

Many VGA monitors had 9-pin sockets and needed a lead like this.

Dial up hardware modem vs software modem

In many places in the world you can no longer get an "actual dial-up connection". In the UK in most towns its simply not an option. You can order a "Phone Line" but what they deliver is either a FTTC or FTTP internet service with a router with a phone socket and the actual connection is VOIP...

    VAX 4000-705A Questions

Thats very odd. I haven't lugged the manual out, but my VAX4000 only had one DSSI terminator, but on the other port on the CPU cover. I no longer have it so can't do any checks.

    VAX 4000-705A Questions

I found most any CD Drive or even DVD drive would let you boot so long as it had the sector jumper. I used a Toshiba drive in my 4000, so I would expect the SCSI2SD should work fine. You can set the sector size (I think for all versions) and tweak the other settings so it looks like an RRD40.

    VAX 4000-705A Questions

If you can find a SCSI card, and the KZQSA used to be cheaper than this https://ebay.us/m/QVIXYf then you can use a CD or DVD drive with the "UNIX" 512 byte jumper to boot from VMS. The problem with the KZQSA is it officially only supports TAPE and CD drives, but there are reports real disks...

A problem about alternative of HDD for my vintage.

How did you get the data onto the CF card? How do you know its bootable? What happens if you just inset the IDE to CF adaptor with no CF Card?

A problem about alternative of HDD for my vintage.

How did you write the data to the CF card if you can't test it? Perhaps get a normal IDE to Laptop IDE cable and see if it works on your USB to IDE cable? https://amzn.eu/d/hADZNJg or download the DOS restore floppy from https://oldcomputer.info/portables/siemenspcd/index.htm can you boot...

Implications of Finding Copying in Disassembly?

Whilst not games related, there was lots of pirating of the IBM PC BIOS and lots of court cases, and the development of "Clean Room" processes to prove that whilst it might be the same it could not have been copied.

    bringing up a p/390 under warp 4

Its a long time since I played with my P/390 but it did just have PCOMM on it. I seem to remember is when you install PCOMM 4.X it should upgrade the TCP/IP connection manager. So you install PCOMM then re-run MPTS. The README.MPT file in the "OS2\INSTALL\MPTS" folder on the PCOM CD has...
