    CBM3032 Mainboard Repair

Hello, My trustworthy 3032 developed several hiccups over the past months. Suddenly it wouldn't start, only with the help of the PET ROM/RAM board it would, but the Commodore text would be "wobbly" (with interference). The system has the original white sockets installed. Applying a bit of...

    CBM 3040 Repair

I was able to trace the machine back to his original owner; a certain Boris Eelzebub, it appears. I put in the replacement 901466-02 today, no difference when turning on. Checked all sockets again, still have SYNC LO on the 6502. Whenever I type in any LOAD command and execute, the center LED...

    CBM 3040 Repair

I was able to burn the 2732 from $C00 to $FFF, but no difference (actually it is worse now, as the drive motors won´t spin up at all). Also, 6502 PIN7(SYNC) is LO again...so back to square one. I will be getting a spare 901466-02 over the next few days, will see if this makes any difference. In...

    CBM 3040 Repair

Thanks Dave! I will try this afternoon. I am using an old GalepIII with software running under WIN98. Joe

    CBM 3040 Repair

Just out of curiosity; in a German service manual of the CBM the first troubleshooting step is to check the multiplexers (UD3/UE3/UF3) with the aid of a NOP tester. I just did and found UD3 PIN7(output) dead (no activity except 5V). But I guess I am jumping around, I will start with the RRIOT...

    CBM 3040 Repair

I am relieved regarding the capacitors. Regarding the 2732, I only programmed it once (so probably a mistake on my side), so I will try a 27128 (haven´t got any at the moment I think, so need to source). In the meantime I will try and figure out how to burn the 2732 four times; I haven´t used...

    CBM 3040 Repair

So to start with, I am building a simple NOP tester as follows (6502) Pin 33, 31, 29 to 21 (GND) and Pin 32, 30, 28, 27, 26 to 8 (Vcc) This will keep me busy for a while :-)

    CBM 3040 Repair

I have, essentially, used the following adapter, made by PCBWay. There is a difference in the (decoupling) capacitors used; Ruud Baltissen uses 220n whereas in the PCB Way description it says 100nf. I used the 901466-02.bin file from Zimmers. It is a 1kb file...

    CBM 3040 Repair

OK So I found some time and went on to continue with the CBM3040 troubleshooting. The RRIOT adaptor arrived from PCBWay yesterday, so I soldered one together today (a bit confused about the required capacitors value, hope I got it right). Also not too sure about the EPROM (I burned a 2732 with...

    CBM 3040 Repair

Unfortunately, I have very little time for my projects nowadays, but a small update; I made the little adapters to read the 2332 ROMs (UL1 and UH1), and the GCR ROM, results below; 901468-06(UL1, DOS1.0) The dump matches the file from Zimmers.net 901468-07(UH1, DOS1.0) The dump matches the...

    CBM 3040 Repair

Thinking about reading the ROMs, am I correct as follows; 2332ROM(901468-06)--->adaptor(2332-2732)--->read in EPROM Programmer This "business" about EPROMs is mind boggling :)

    CBM 3040 Repair

OK so not much to do today, except that the CBM3032 developed a hiccup with the RAM, so had to drop in a PET ROM/RAM board. Also punched in the code below to see if there is any reaction; 10 OPEN 15,8,15 20 INPUT #15,E,E$,T,S 30 PRINT E,E4,T,S 40 CLOSE 15 The return yielded only "0", nothing else.

    CBM 3040 Repair

Happy Easter! Slowly having some success with programming the EPROMs; by using my old Galep III with old software I am able to burn TMS2532s with a 2732 adapter. I will try to burn some BASIC eproms and use them in the 3032 just to see if they work OK. Next step would be to read the EPROMS in...

    CBM 3040 Repair

I guess the only way to find out is to check the other ROMs. For now I need to consider acquiring a reliable EPROM programmer. Either all my stock 2532s/2716s/2732s are faulty or the programmer is...
