Hi Steve. nice line up, but I dont think I would call them "Generations" as its like two generations maybe. 5150, 5160, and 5170 are pretty much from the same generation.

I plan to squeeze a PS2 and a 5161 in soon.

The ThinkPad dates from the 1990’s so I guess that’s three generations.

I am more interested in computers from the 70’s and 80’s I have no plans to include anything from the 2000’s or 2010’s :(

Which PS/2? Models span anywhere form 8086 upto 386/486 level. You can do a generations collection with just PS/2 !

I'd suggest getting a deeper desk and order them the other way around (oldest left, not right). While a good selection of machines, the presentation looks very odd. Like just slapped on some random desk.

They do look a bit odd with the keyboards hanging over the edge of the desk. Would think you'd want them to look like they were in use back in the day.

Nice collection. I would like to have both a 5150 and 5170 in my collection. I only have a 5162 (which is AT class and not an XT).

I think it depends on how you define generations, but I agree that I would not say there are more than four on that desk. The 5150 and 5160 would be one generation (8088). The 5170 is second generation (80286). The PS/1 is another generation (could be 80286, and is ISA, but these were designed as different than the AT and targeted at the Home market). The Thinkpad is a generation and a separate line.
