Okay, I have a fun vintage computer horror story I'll tell to vent.
sold an old 386 PC that had a working hard drive BUT since the battery was dead you had to go into setup and reenter the info every time. it was an older style external battery which I didn't have any extras so I decided to sell it as is...big mistake which I know to not make again. I clearly stated that this was the case in the auction and that the buyer would need to enter the information and buy a new battery. anyways the PC sold. my first big red flag was when it arrived and I got this message.
"Hi, I got the item, please tell me how to connect it to a computer, what cables are needed etc. where to buy" along with "what is this computer called? What is the make? Apple or what? Need to get a system diskette. Also where to get power adapter?"
Okay...so I get the guy is new to vintage computers but come on, its like if I bought a car and then after it was delivered I call the dealership and ask whats the make and model, then ask what do I put in it to make it run and then how do you even drive?. I pretty much ended up being the guys tech support for the last 2 weeks telling him what cables he needed etc.. he just couldn't seem to get past the setup though nomatter how I tried to explain to him what to do. I even sent him a video of the very same computer and the setup process (setting the A and B drive, entering the HDD parameters) but again, he just couldn't seem to get it. anyways I just received a refund notice from ebay today and a "item not as described" as the reason. the claim said it was not working and that it wouldn't "open up", not sure what that means unless he didn't know how to use a screwdriver. I'm pretty much completely confident the PC is exactly as I described it but he just had absolutely no idea what he was doing and couldn't even figure out basic setup. Anyways lesson learned, I won't be selling any PC online that requires anykind of setup unless its a fellow forum member that has at least basic knowledge of what they are getting into....just a huge waste of time and money.
