The Altair 8800 was a minicomputer kit sold in 1975. The BASIC programming language written for these early systems got Microsoft off to a start in 1975.

- Stock kits had 256 Bytes of RAM
- Optional external 8" floppy drive(s)
- BASIC or a ROM-able monitor as an OS; if you didn't have as OS... well, that's what those switches are for!
- Blinking LEDs as the main display of output, or you could use a terminal.
