C64 Power Supply Substitute

I don't need it to look pretty but can I make do with a 5V meanwell supply and a small 9v 10VA wall wart or is there more going on in the PSU circuit that say you can't do that?

When I rebuilt my power supply, I used the original 9v transformer and a sufficiently sized 5v wall wart.

Wish I could offer a Nu-Brick 64 PS. Sadly, I'm in supply-chain hell, and I've been waiting on parts for months now. However, I've found that in this particular forum, many users are handy enough to build their own.

I went for the crazy.

I grabbed a 5V 2A supply for the 5V side. Done.
For the AC side I grabbed am 18v AC 1500mA brick from an ADSL modem, cracked it open and while keeping the secondary side loaded with about 1.2A of resistive load I took turns off until I was around 9v.
