I'm looking to do some serial port work on my DEC Pro 380 in Venix. Anyone know offhand if there's anything special about it, or will a regular straight thru/null modem do?

If you are using the printer port for a serial console, you need to connect pins 8 and 9 on the PRO end of the cable. If you are using the other port, the communication port, no funny cabling required to do reads and writes on it (but, it's just a terminal line - you can't use it as a console). If you intend to attach an external console there is a pin that needs to be grounded. It's documented in the system manual (I'm not in front of mine at the moment and don't recall the exact details).
Can anyone recommend a cable that could be used for kermit transfer to a PC? Which I think would be DB25 to X, and X to USB?If you are using the printer port for a serial console, you need to connect pins 8 and 9 on the PRO end of the cable. Thanks, Lee. I knew that something had be jumpered but was fuzzy on the details. If you are using the printer port for a serial console, you need to connect pins 8 and 9 on the PRO end of the cable. Thanks, that's helpful. Should it be otherwise a null-modem, or straight through? I'm not sure how I'll hook this up just yet.If you are using the printer port for a serial console, you need to connect pins 8 and 9 on the PRO end of the cable. Pleas ignore the unneeded attachments above - paste got outta control....It's a 9 pin connector, but doesn't use the PC 9 pin standard pinout. Here's what it looks like

THe above doesn't include the connetion between 8 and 9.
I reckon you will need to cross 2 and 3 if you are connecting to anoter system, or an adapter that looks like another system, so that would make the cable null-modemish...DEC 9 pin style.
Pins 2, 3 and 7 should be enough on either one.Do those ports need all the handshaking or can I just get away with swapping Tx/Rx? I have a VR241A and an LK201, but it's nice to have the alternative. I may try this experiment with both ports.
