For Sale: spotted on Craigslist (continuous sightings)

Not sure what I see that tells me it's not worth about 1/50th of the asking price.

When someone asks for something over, say, $200, I expect lots of pictures and explanation or a story or something. That's a giveaway for me when someone's hawking something ostensibly worth $1000 and you get 3 uninteresting pictures. No serial #, nothing.

I probably have 3 or 4 of these boxed "first edition's" sitting in my garage or basement right now. I don't expect they're worth more than $50, tops, with the matching serial numbers, verified working status, and better looking boxes.

Bo (zimmers.net) last time I checked had similar and similar expectations of them as well :)

ACtually, with software, complete, extra drives, and good pix, you can often pull in the $100-200 range for a full C64 system. Amazes me.

That's utterly insane. I bought a C64 in a box that looked like it was brand new, with all booklets and warranty cards for $20 a couple years ago. I didn't even consider it that good a deal.

Well "full system" while a loose system isn't worth much you have the loose system ($20-40), floppy drive (with a 6502 :) $5-15, monitor $20-40 (unless you ship), possible need for power adapter probably $10-15. So if you're really looking at a fully system yes you can justify the cost somewhat vs finding the parts one at a time. (Joystick also $5-15 from what I've seen locally). Given those higher side prices are the stores around here which intentionally charge $9.99 minimum for about everything that they buy for $1.

FWIW, my take is "monkey see, monkey do". People who have some stuff they they want to unload, venture possibly for the first time on to Craig's List and eBay. They see a ridiculously priced item and they think, "well, if that so and so can, I can too" Free enterprise, you know.

Helping out our European brethren?

How much would you charge to keep your weathered eye on the midwestern classifieds? Every automated craigslist (and other) search engine I've tried has really not worked well.

Have you tried the google search 'site:craigslist.org (thing to search for)'? It works, but it will show you expired listings as well.
