I picked up an Ace 1000 and I'm trying to get it up and running. I have a floppy drive on it, and a BMOW emulator as well. I don't have a bootable floppy disk unfortunately.
Powering on the drive makes the traditional clunkitah-cllunktah, so I know it's initializing.
Plugging in the BMOW board, and selecting a ProDOS boot image (or anything, actually) - never shows any activity on the controller (the track selector never moves, no activity light).
If I hit Reset, it drops to the BASIC prompt, where I can type in a simple HELLO WORLD app and it works.
From the command line, if I do a PR#6 to do a boot, still no activity on the controller. If I do the PR#6 with the drive plugged in, nothing happens on the drive.
Occasionally when I hit PR#6 I'll get an ?OUT OF MEMORY error or possibly ?ILLEGAL QUANTITY ERROR :
I've pulled all the cards out except the Franklin disc controller. Note this machine also has an 80 column card, so I'm patched into that for video. It also also has a RAM expansion board. I've pulled out the ACE 80 and the Microsoft Softcards just to keep things simpler.
I've forgotten so much about how to work with these machines. Am I doing something stupid?
