Getting hold of a V9938 or V9958 in 2024

I'm looking for a reliable source for a single, working V9958 (or maybe a V9938).
Googling seems to indicate that aliexpress is too full of fakes already.

I've built a little homebrew 68000 machine, and it's sorely craving for some sprites.
A 9958 looks nice for this purpose.

Any recommendation would be appreciated, like a reliable aliexpress seller.
I am living in germany.

I'm open to other suggestions. I'm just tinkering along having some fun.
Had some video success with an EF9366, but no sprites on that one.

Thanks and regards.

There are a couple of V9958 listings on Ali for $8-10 a piece. As far as I can tell, these are all fake. I bought one about a month ago out of curiosity and it was obviously remarked and in the wrong package. The dead giveaway for fake V99X8 chips is the lack of indentation by pin 1. Maybe the more expensive V9958s (~$40) are legit, but I'm not going to check.

I hooked it up to a breadboard just to confirm it, and unsurprisingly I got no divided clock signal out.

At the same time, I also bought a V9938 on Ali from seller CSK3. It was a bit more expensive (~$20) but the listing had good reviews. When I received it the package looked legit and it passed my breadboard test. Can't tell if it's fully functional, but it *is* a V9938. Note the indentation by pin 1 on the genuine chip vs the counterfeit V9958.

Hope this helps!

Thanks everybody.

The 9958 is apprx. $50 on utsource and also from CSK3. Expensive hobby...

The 9938 is about €25 for me from CSK3. I've put that into the basket.
Let's see if the Forum comes up with some more hints.
Otherwise, I'm gonna take my chances with that one.
