Hi everyone, I have an old IBM PS/1 386SX with 2Mb Ram and DOS 6.2, which I'd like to put an IDE CD-Rom in. I've installed the CD-Rom in place of the 5.25in drive, set the drive to slave, the hard drive to Master, added:

devicehigh=c:\OAKCDROM.sys /d:MSCD0001

and

LH c:\dos\mscdex.exe /d:MSCD0001

on boot up it just never sees the CD-Rom drive and says No device found. Drive has been test run on another system.

Any ideas if I need a special driver or bios update or something?

Thanks in advance,

Ian.

BIOS support is irrelevant, but you might want to try a different driver. OAKCDROM usually highly compatible so I'm a bit surprised it doesn't work. Give VIDE-CDD.SYS a try?

Create a boot disk with the CD-ROM drivers and boot from this with only the CD-ROM drive connected. Many pre-EIDE hard disks simply don't play well with an ATAPI device like a CD-ROM connected to the same cable. In this case, get a sound card with an IDE port and connect the CD-ROM drive there.

Thanks everyone, I put in an ESS1688 sound card I had lying around, it has an IDE interface and used VIDE-CDD.SYS and it's all up and running and loading WFWG 3.11 installing as we speak
