I have acquired a Chinon F-051 APC 5.25" drive unit. The unit contains a Chinon F-051MD drive mechanism with a 2 x 10 way IDC connector a la Disk ii.

A single sheet of A4, says that it is specially designed to work with APPLE II. But it also claims that it is a 163 Kb formatted capacity (single side, double density) Which I interpret as the drive mechanism is capable of FM, MFM or WOZ GRC. But presumably only WOZ GCR when connected to an Apple II Disk controller.

The mechanism appears to be a single sided drive but would appear to have: trk0, index, & write protect sensors.

Is there any information on these?

I can only find reference to Staff C1 Apple II clone, which uses a variant of these drives internally.

Thanks

Peter

As far as I remember they can use a few more than 35 tracks. The electronics is only designed for Apple2, what are you trying to achieve? You can test its limit easily if it is working. By the way how did you exactly resolve those Pascal problems you reported to me with Saturn RAM card?
