I know a lot of people have developed or are working on a replacement for the KIM-1's two 6530, but I couldn't find schematics, so I winged my own:

http://www.corshamtech.com/tech-tips/kim-6530-replacement/

The complete schematics, EAGLE files, and Gerber files are on that page. I took a lot of good ideas from other people, especially Ruud Baltissen's pages about replacing a 6530 in a Commodore drive (http://www.baltissen.org/newhtm/6530repl.htm) and his KIM-1 clone. Anyone is free to take the information on my page for their own use.

In theory, the board should be able to replace either -002 or -003 depending on how the three jumpers are set, but I only have a socketed U2 on all my machines to test with, so I couldn't check the -003 settings.

I'll probably offer bare boards, kits and assembled versions, but if you've got a KIM with a dead 6530, go ahead and grab my files to get your machine running right away. Create an account on any of the PCB houses, upload the Gerber file, place an order and wait a week or two for your boards to arrive. You can see from my pictures that I had prototypes from OSH Park (the purple color is the give-away).

If anyone uses this for U3, please let me know if it works or not.

I for one would be interested in a kit if one becomes available. I don't think I have the skill to build it myself.

I'm not even really sure my 6530-02 is dead, but so far everything else has checked out.
