This game has been a thorn in my side for far too long. I've managed to collect pristine copies for both Oh no! More Lemmings and Lemmings 2 and yet no matter how many times I purchase Lemmings I always get their Rev#3 release.

So, basically, what I'm looking for is their original May 20, 1991 release of Lemmings.

The file list is as such

and I believe it looks like this (only because this is the only disk type I've yet to get my hands on. I stupidly missed an auction for one a month ago too.)

WARNING: If you do happen to have this game somewhere, please do not put it into any computer (especially late 90's models) without write protecting it first. ie, make sure that hole in the bottom left is see-through.

I have that 5 1/4" disk version. I don't think it's the original release, but I can check it tomorrow if you want me to.

Check this one out. I believe the first versions where only on 5 ¼ disk. If I remember right. I might still have one at my grandfathers house. I will call him.

You actually might be on to something. I've already picked up a few copies with black disks and white text written on them, but the write-protect stickers on the disks and that style of manual are new to me (The English written on the bottom right). I'm just a little wary because I've been burned with about 10 different copies so far.

I do know that the later editions mentioned Oh No! More lemmings on the first page of the manual so I'm going to ask if they can provide a photo if it.

If it's not a bother, I'd appreciate it. Without being able to read the disks it's a toss-up, but if you've got the same manual/box style then it might be the same version as the one in the auction.

EDIT:
So I just checked my closet and I actually do have that manual. First page doesn't mention the addon at all and it even had a thank you card stapled to the first page for ordering directly from psygnosis. My disks in that box were for the third release though.... But the write protect stickers on the one in the auction "might" still mean it's an early release. Distributors usually stopped applying them after the first batch.

The dates of my copy do match the listed above. I was certain that I didn't have an early revision. Granted, all I have are the disks and the manual as the box is long gone.

Just to be absolutely certain, cgalemmi, vgalemmi and tgalemmi are all time stamped 05/10/91? I've faked myself out to disappointment far too many times by sorting/reading the file list incorrectly.

Also, How much do you want for it? ^^

Yes I am certain that the dates match. I compared the dates on the disk on from my Tandy 1000 with my laptop on this page. I apologize, but I am not interested in selling it. Besides, I don't have the box for it any more. The version on the E-bay listing looks exactly the same as the manual and the disks that I have.

So I actually found a copy of the Red colored label on Amazon, but it just turned out to be another Revision 3. I did win the eBay auction linked above and I'm still waiting on delivery. Will update as soon as it arrives.

So the auction was unfortunately another waste of money and I've now got a large pile of lemmings boxes taking up closet space now.

I'm still looking for a copy. I believe the tell-tale sign is a manual with English written (not guaranteed) in the bottom right. I have other leads, but so far they seem to be all over the place.

What's the importance of Rev 1 Lemmings? Is it just to complete a collection? I can appreciate it, I collect vintage Mac games and have different versions of the same game. Of the few DOS games I have, I have 3 different versions of Darklands: 5.25", 3.5", and CD. Just because. :)

No real importance. I believe it has a few graphics updates in the executables and maybe bugfixes as the executables are the only files updated. The real reason I'm looking for it is for this digital archive I'm working on to preserve Day 1 original releases of (mostly the popular) classic games.

So these two manuals both lack mention of the expansion "Oh No! More lemmings"

The first manual without language mentioned on the bottom right is taken from a UK listing, but I believe it might be used for the states release too. I've seen an alternative cover of the second manual with EUROPE on the bottom right.

I have a demo (?) version on 5 1/4" disk with mostly file dates of 1991, but when you boot it up it says something about a special COMPUTE level, there are 120 total levels. There are a few extra files with newer dates ('92 and '93). Copyright is 1991 though. It appears to be a version 1 demo that you could get from COMPUTE. I fired it up, works. ASks if you're using VGA or EGA. The disk has a white label black writing.

Before we close this thread out I wanted to tell Bill that I'd love to have a disk dump of that demo disk he's got!

I have uploaded three backups of my COMPUTE copy of Lemmings.

1. A regular dump of the disk files
http://vintagecomputer.net/ibm/programs/lemmings/lemmings.zip

2. A directory called ../IMD containing a disk image using Dunfield's Image Disk
http://vintagecomputer.net/ibm/programs/lemmings/IMD/

3. A directory called ../imagetool32 containing a disk image created using Image Tool 3.2 with my Catweasel
http://vintagecomputer.net/ibm/programs/lemmings/imagetool32/

take your pick. Let me know how it goes. EGA or VGA required, 640K DOS system.

UPDATE: OOPS I forgot to set up the directory for access and download, if you tried and failed to gain access, I just now fixed the problem. Please try again.

Bill

Finally got around to checking this...

This one was new to me, thank you for providing it!
If you select F2 from the main menu and type in "VERSIONNUM" in the level box, it returns back it is PD Lemmings v1.9, and of course level 1 is unique to all other lemmings games.
A great addition to the DOS archive I'm building.

Glad I could help. I will hopefully sooner than later create a directory of all DOS games I have. In addition to the newer DOS games my personal favorites are rare early IBM BASIC games from when I worked at IBM, they used to pass them around among the younger staff. Some were originally from the very rare cassette samplers they used to sell at the IBM Customer Center. I demoed these at VCF 8 (I think) in my IBM PC exhibit.
