MDA stands for Monochrome Display Adapter. It was a primitive way to display text on screen and was limited to a single color at two different intensities, as well as reverse video. Normally, you could not display graphics with an MDA adapter. These were the least expensive display adapters for the [wiki]IBM PC[/wiki] and it's clones, and many were shipped with this option.
