My 8m passes the Chess.bin test....I didn't!

You bet!
DeepOrange will be making the first move at noon PST tomorrow.
Here's a cameo shot of 'your competition':

My brother has been playing lots of chess lately with a friend via the internet. My brother asked me if I could pull up a computer chess game so that he could beat his friend. Naturally, I booted CHEKMO II on an emulator (it's just too slow on the real hardware!) and proceeded to beat his friend for three games. The fourth game, his friend actually beat CHEKMO. Once we told him what was going on, he was quite thrilled to know that he ended up beating a computer finally (even it was from the mid-70s).

I'm going to be looking at modifying CHEKMO II to run better under OS/8 one of these days. It likes to halt upon receiving initial character input, and doesn't support ctrl-C to get back to OS/8.

Did you download CHEKMO-II? If so, I'd really appreciate the link as I have not been able to find it online.
If not, would you be willing to email?
The chess game I found on bitsavers is pretty crude; I have no instructions and I don't think it will castle, or promote pawns. And, it doesn't seem to allow correction of typing errors, nor does it error check moves!

Thanks,

Mike

Why of course. I had to do some digging to find it initially, but here is the source on archive.org.

I've successfully compiled it with David Gesswein's palbart. Haven't tried PAL8, but I assume that'll work just fine too. I originally grabbed a binary somewhere, but I don't recall where now.

Here are the rest of the docs too, from David's website.

Awesome! Thank you.
I had found the instructions in several places, including David's site, but the program itself had eluded me!

Chekmo-II is up and running!
Much, much better UI than the program I had.:D
