I am trying to figure out what I have to do to get this to boot up.
The last three pictures of screens
1). Is errors l get "301", "inquire error" & "mode sense error"
The other two pictures are screen shots of programs that start to load but stops loading or hangs loading

FYI. The "diskette error was me forgetting to put a disk in the drive"

Can this computer be booted up with a DOS 4.0 boot disk?
I starting to think I may need an earlier version of DOS
I will post more pictures of boards when I get them out
Thanks for any help I can get on this computer

Is errors l get "301",
A keyboard error. Do you have a working XT-class keyboard attached?

"inquire error" & "mode sense error"
They appear under the line starting with 'ST01'.
You have a Seagate ST01 SCSI card in your computer, probably the early version based on the version 1.7 BIOS ROM on it.
SCSI has an 'inquiry' command, and so the BIOS ROM on the ST01 will be what is displaying that error message.
SCSI has a 'mode sense' command, and so the BIOS ROM on the ST01 will be what is displaying that error message.

You can prove that by removing the ST01 card.

Can this computer be booted up with a DOS 4.0 boot disk?
I cannot see why not.

If you don't have an XT capable keyboard available, you can always look for the Compaq Enhanced keyboard. It isn't quite age appropriate for the Deskpro 8086, but it does work with it, matches the case stye, and is usually much easier to find (and cheaper) on auction sites.

ST-225N is the SCSI version of the ST-225 (an 'MFM' drive).

According to the final page of the document at [here], the '106265-002' on the motherboard BIOS ROM (which Compaq calls the system ROM) indicates revision J of the BIOS.

Is there any chance that somebody would have the screws that holds the cover on? they screw in the back... I made the mistake of leaving mine on the table when my grandkids came over..
now I don't have them anymore.. I would be most thankful if someone has extra. I will pay for them of course..
thank you

Screws might just be generic PC case screws.

Does your hard drive 'spin up' when you turn the power on? Make sure the hard drive cables are connected firmly.

I had the same problem of screws going missing from the table, except that the culprit is one (or both) of my cats. The screws would disappear overnight and I would find them scattered about the unit. Putting them into a zip lock bag was an easy solution.

Screws might just be generic PC case screws.
A photo at [here] shows the screws at the rear.

Wow, I did not expect that type of screw!

I really do enjoy the aesthetics of those Deskpros, especially with the original monitor and keyboard.

 Well, I guess a massive heart attack is a good enough excuse. I'm feeling lenient today. Just don't do it again. :)

Yes, any of us can go at any time. If I get some kind of bad cancer diagnosis, I'll be fine. I'll be grateful for having lived a good and long life.
