PC/XT Extender Card/Expansion Unit & Slot 8

I recall hearing that the "timing characteristics" of the slot closest to the power supply were different
Yes. Per wrote that in post #5.

and it was intended for use withg an :"asycronous card" meaning a serial card.
The IBM Asynchronous Communications Adapter is a card that is compatibile with slot 8.
There are also other cards that can be used in slot 8.
For more information, see http://www.minuszerodegrees.net/5160/misc/5160_slot_8.htm

I think thgis may apply also to a pc 5 slot board
It doesn't.

Thinking about it, in spite of the number of third-party cards that support Slot 8, and the optional support by the Async card and the Voice Communications Adapter, the funny Slot 8 wiring must have been intended way ahead of time during the 5160 design phase for some special purpose.

There are only two suspects that I can think of--the 5271 (PC 3270) and the PC XT370. Can anyone take a quick look at their library and see if either requires a card in slot 8?
