RA70 problems - will not start spinning

Dear all!

I attempt to get a RA70 disk running using a KDA50 QBUS controller in a Microvax 3800 (KA655 CPU).
Unfortunately, the drive will not spin up.
I am wondering if the drive is defect or I still have a configuration error.

Does anybody have experience with RA70 drive? Shall it spin up when powered on?

Is there anywhere a documentation of the drive DIP Switches available?



My setup looks like:



The drive is recognized by the system but any attempt booting from it will cause ony ticking noise (two ticks - long pause - two ticks ....)
and no spindle movement.



Any ideas from the experts here?

Do you have an SA7x OCP? It will display status/error codes.

I worked in the site that made that drive (CXO, Colorado Springs), but I don't have any experience with it...

I am purely guessing here, but the 'ticks' sound like (no pun intended) the heads moving and the system trying to home the drive.

Do you get a fault or ready lamp lighting at all?

Mine, a defect one, runs without cover only. With OCP the drive spins up, moves the heads slowly to the inner position and then faster all the way back to the outer position. Again, with cover it sounds unhealthy when it moves the heads and it spins down with a fault.
