I've never seen anyone mention it here, so I thought I would. There's a great contest that takes place in January called RetroChallenge Winter Warm-Up:

It's a "contest" to promote using vintage computers (its not very competitive, really). I participated in the summer one this year, and I plan on participating this winter as well. I'm sure they'd love some more contestants. Contestants keep blogs of their progress throughout the month, and some interesting work gets done.
