I have a SATA plug for a drive to connect to a Mac via FireWire 800. The problem is, my old TiBook only has a FireWire 400 plug. I found a converter, but it’s the wrong gender. Does anyone know of a male FireWire 800 to male FireWire 400 gender adapter? I haven’t been able to locate one. The only thing I found is a male 800 to female 400 adapter

The problem is that your SATA adapter only has a plug on the end instead of a jack, which isn't normal. Every other FW drive that I've ever seen has jacks on the back.

I think you need to daisy-chain another external drive in between. That would work as a gender changer, even if it had two 800 jacks.

I don’t have any actual FireWire drives I could daisy chain with. The connector in the photo is for a SATA drive to connect by FireWire 800. Trouble is, I’ve only got FireWire 400. That’s why I was trying to find an appropriate adapter

I see the SATA-FireWire 800 cable is from Seagate. A search on the web turned up empty for a 400 version, unfortunately
