I've got an IBM 466DX2/T but I've been unable to get the case off. It looks as though it should slide towards the back but it's been impossible to get off. The previous owner try to drill into the case lock in the hopes of opening it but had no success. I've taken the case to a locksmith and he confirms that the lock is in the open position. He even looked inside with a fiber optic camera to see if there was something else holding the case in place, he found nothing. I feel I must be missing something simple in terms of how the case is meant to come off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please have a look at the attached photos

This is correct. Those style IBM cases slide towards the front to open. The two screws on top by the handle are what hold the case closed. Remove them and then grab the handle and pull forward.

There are a few 3rd party tower cases like that. I've got one where the front bezel has to be removed before the side panel can slide forward. Damned nuisance--you wonder who designed these things.
