Hello. I just received an IBM 6448800XM ISA serial/parallel card from ePay and I noticed that one of the ceramic (mica?) capacitors were broken in half. The capacitor looks like a standard ceramic or perhaps mica-dipped capacitor, but it has three leads; the capacitor is labeled "10-16" with a circled "2" just below.

I assume the capacitor is a 10pf 16v capacitor and I know the center lead is for a ground--perhaps the 2 is for 2%????

HOWEVER, I cannot find three lead/terminal capacitors anywhere. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I tried searching on Mouser and Digikey.

Many thanks in advance!

10 µF, not pF and it's a tantalum. See Kemet T396 series for details. The center lead is +, the outer leads are -. This is sometimes called a "fail-safe" design, as it's not possible to insert the cap backwards.

An ordinary 2-lead cap will work in a pinch.

Thank you, Chuck and Modem7! I had little knowledge of tantalum caps, but now I know! I found the correct part on Mouser and placed an order. Many thanks for the information!
