I imagine (given the amount of new hardware since 1999), that would be a gigantic (probably impossible) undertaking. Thankfully for most of us luddites, pretty much everything we really need is still in TH99.

Was there much hardware released in the last 15 years that requires jumpers to be set? I have not seen any that wasn't solely configured by software.

With newer (post-1999) hardware it isn't usually a big problem to ID or configure a part without a manual - it's really the drivers you need.
Thanks for the updated link, I'm sure I've been to that site before but never thought to actually download it!

Sorry, I should have been a little more specific. Given the number of motherboards released in the last 15 years....

There's some discussion over at Vogons at the moment about producing a more modern version of TH99. Personally I favour a wiki approach, where everyone can get in and contribute the hardware they know about. You may not need things like jumper settings with modern hardware, but I think it would still be useful to know things like what ROM types a network card supports, what the pinouts are for those undocumented connectors (should someone figure it out), and perhaps store a backup of the motherboard manuals and CPU support lists for the day when the various manufacturers decide to delete all that info!

It'd also be handy to have a reference for what value that exploded capacitor was since the fragments are now unreadable ;-)

I second in that there isn't a whole lot of hardware after 1999 that relied on jumpers or the like but there is still a lot of hardware that is pre-1999 that isn't listed and I'd love the database to be expanded just with more hardware instead of newer hardware.

Here's update #1 (June 2000) and #2 (November 2000) to Total Hardware 1999.
Together they contain almost 2000 more devices that was not in the original TH99.

The update packages were released in 2000 but never got the same spread as the original TH99.

Since the links here were to dodgy file sharing sites, I grabbed the files and uploaded them to archive.org.

@20goto10 please use other sharing services, when it is possible. Thanks for the contribution, though!

Thank you 20goto10 for the links. I was unaware of the update to th99. I will investigate them fully.

Thank you ajacocks for giving them a proper place.

For those not aware. That impossible task of updating and fixing the errors in it has started over at https://www.ultimateretro.net. So far we have only motherboards. New features include a searchable database, BIOS images, manuals, and a chip set database based off my encyclopedia. I am working on moving the encyc over to the new site, where it will be a little more user friendly.

We are working on interface cards and disks but it will be a while before we get there.

There are A LOT of errors in th99. We are working on getting each motherboard to have the correct chipset but there are still a sizable few that are unidentified. So if you search for 430NX, I can't guarantee ALL will show up. There were originally about 5,000 motherboards, we now have about 10,000. Not every motherboard has jumper settings, sometimes they can't be found. One thing that is solid is the number of slots. We went through all the motherboards identifying how many slots and type they are. Using this feature alone you can usually find the motherboard in about 20 matches, instead of 500 pictures.
