Hi folks,

When I went to pick up my VR201 monitor there was a pool of red/brown goo underneath it. It looks a lot like gearbox oil.

I've opened it up and I can see the stuff around the plastic screen surround but it's not on the circuit board. I thought it might be capacitor fluid but there is no sign of it and the caps look fine.

Can anyone shine a little light on this?

Thanks,

Andy.

Andy, I had the same issue with a VR201 that I collected with a Rainbow last year. I removed the plate glass from the CRT very carefully using a thin guitar string fitted in a hacksaw frame. i then cleaned the remaining "glue" with a Stanley blade, Isopropyl on a cloth and elbow grease.

Thanks PG31,

I like the sound of the guitar string.
Did you attempt to refit the glass plate when you had cleaned it?

Cheers,

Andy.

Yes, I used 1cm thick by about 6cm long double sided adhesive Scotch foam pads and secured in multiple places and then tape around the outside of the CRT and glass. You cant see the Scotch pads with the bezel fitted. Probably not the best fix but all I came up with at the time, I didn't want to use any glues at all.
