Windows 3.1 emulator in your browser

My job is actually based around developing a Window'd application in a browser (it even has a task bar) - never thought of emulating Windows though!

Here is another neat one, which might've been mentioned already: http://jurassicsystems.com/system for those that remember Jurassic Park and the weird sysadmin with the UNIX system.
It responds to the commands used in the movie, and there is a hidden bonus if you ask it nicely. (emulates a UNIX UI and an old Mac UI as per the film)

Pretty plain though. Here's my setup:

Isn't it strange how Windows 8 is really just a reincarnation of Windows 3.1 and how all those years of having a start button was a mistake?

The real hilarious part about Windows 8 compared to Windows 1/2/3 is how everyone was clamoring to get out of the MS-DOS Executive and Program Manager hell back then.

Take a look at some of the alternate shells or shell extensions people created for Win 1/2/3. METZ Desktop Navigator, Command Post, PubTech File Organizer, Norton Desktop for Windows, Central Point Desktop, etc. Most of those give you some kind of drop down menu with your commonly used programs. Others add Mac-like file or desktop icons. These are products that SOLD. These a products that made people say "Why doesn't Windows work this way out of the box?!".

Microsoft added most of that to Windows 95 so they could have it all built in for themselves. Now they want to jettison that all and go back to the old DOS single-tasking days.

So funny it make you want to cry.

As graphics improved, more and more embellishments got added until MS-Bob and the competing "real world" looking interfaces proved to be too far. Then back to a more colorful version of the 3-D look which gained more embellishment until Apple starting pushing into MS Bob territory. It was inevitable that after the skeumorphic excesses that a more simplified style would take over, especially as OSes were shrunk to fit on phones (with much weaker graphics). What is missing is a clever name that would lend academic luster. Georgian Revival for architecture; maybe McGregor Revival for UIs.

LOL! Very apropos parody!

At least they could have made Windows 8 look "retro" to appease US! :p Supposedly Window 9 should be a return to sanity.

LOL that and the flat window theme. Lets all go back to the early 90s

Everyone, Put on your Flannel, throw in your Nirvana tapes, and buckle up in your Explorers, we're goin' for a ride to the days of 5" thick software boxes, 3" Thick manuals, and installations on 8 to 80 floppies!

Sounds great, but I think I will take a flat panel monitor back with me. :)
