I am a new member here having just found this site while looking for information about the Xerox 6085. I did find one thread here "Xerox Star Question" started by member Coinages which was some help but it was from 2012 and I was hoping for some more recent info. I am also new to posting on forums, have read about the rules here, and hope I am posting this in the correct forum and not violating any rules.
This is my situation.
My brother was working at PARC in Palo Alto when it was closed down and they turned out the lights. He was writing code and integrating on Globalview. At that time his supervisors gave him a complete 6085, tons of reference manuals for Xerox systems, a Sun 4/110, along with numerous periperals and Sparcserver 20s and a Sparcstation 10. They basically told him he could take whatever he wanted as they were bringing in movers to clear out the buildings and scrap everything. Everything he took was from working systems.
He never did anything with it, has had this all in storage ever since, and is now in his 70s and I am attempting to help him move to Northern California. I would appreciate anyone's opinion as to what the value of any of these systems might be, where there might be a market for them (if at all), and what might be the best means of disposal. I would like to post some of it on ebay but I am not knowledgeable enough and my brother is in no position or able to put these systems together to test anything to prove functionality so all I can say is that they came from working systems.
I, myself, worked construction, am familiar with PCs and have built a few myself, but know absolutely nothing about these older types of systems other than what I have heard from my brother as to how great they were in their day.
From what research I have been able to do I get the impression that at least the 6085 might be worth something as I found one forum link where a fellow in the UK had 3 of them and there were several people wanting them, one bad enough to fly to UK to get it.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
