During the 1980's my job involved embedded control using the Motorola 6800 and 6809 series microprocessors so when I managed to buy two 8" disk drives at an affordable ( just ) price I was able to design and build my own 6809 based system.
This has lain untouched for about 25 years until...

Although I passed the Radio Amatur theory exam in 1965 I never actually got my licence ( ticket) as I did not manage the then obligatory, for the UK, 12 word per minuet Morse. Listening to the ham band for the first time in 45 years or so I found that my ears...
Wanting to transfer reasonable sized text files from my PC to the Lab8 recently and not having one of Philipp,s "magic" USB cards I wandered how hard it would be to add RTS/CTS hand shaking to a M8655. Turns out quite easy.
There is already a driver in place, part of E50 , op on pin 6 to...
I was recently asked to expand about a passing reference I made to a small PCB I use to substitute for the above IC's.
The 6380 is a quad 2 input NOR and the 384 a quad 2 input OR , both are fairly extensively used on Omnibus boards, especially the 6380 as a bus receiver, both are...
Hi, could I use an RF31-EA disk with my 11/23 and if so what interface would I need. Im not yet very clued up on these "modern" PDP11 systems, ;)

Iv recently had some fun trying to get some more core stacks back to life, with some success but also some issues.
One stack had LOTS of steering diodes failed, now Iv "bodged" it using the good one 1N4148's but for reliability would like to change the actual DIL packages, DEC -2501-00, has...

Not maybe the optimal engineering solution but fun, also gives me an excuse to " pop out to the workshop to check on the 8 " from time to time over the festive break.

On a previous thread I mentioned that I was expecting a 10% IC failure rate on some cards I was working on. Lou questioned this thinking it was to high and yes he's correct, it is. Iv just done a check on my records and here is the results.
On a total of 71 assorted Omnibus cards tested so far...
Iv decided to take a break from my RK05's and look at something were the head is SUPPOSED to touch the media, my RX01. As usual its not been powered since the 80's , iv done the normal, foam, cant find any, PSU, its a linear and seems ok, heads, cleaned them. Now are there any other "gotchas"...
Some time ago , the cctalk mailing list had some discussion about modifying a 12 sector RK05 pack ( PDP11 ) to make it into a 16 sector for use with the PDP8. This would be very useful for those of us that have few 16 sector but more 12 , I have 1 16 that I dare to put in the drive but about...
I expect quite a few people here have already see this but if not have look, its an account of the development of the 8/E by one of the leading participants.

Can I use a Linktape ( after formatting) on my TU56, I know that the Dectape and Linktape are very similar, and that the DEctape is in fact based on the Linktape but are they interchangeable, particularly are the spools the same size and the tape the same length ?. Also anyone know of any PDP8...
