Hey guys,

I know there are many places that discuss GoTek, but I can't seem to find the info I need.

I would like to get one of there. Mainly to help setup 5150/5160/AT's that I restore.

I noticed on eBay, that they sell different models.

You can get the 1.44Mb models REALLY cheap on eBay ($15 shipped)

https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5-1-44M-...h=item3fafba8c69:g:8NEAAOSwSiVbsx7a:rk:1:pf:1

Or the ones that state 720KB but that are DOUBLE the price ($30 shipped)

Looking at the video below, he seems to have the 1.44 version in his 5150.

I know the 5150/5160 hardware does not support 1.44. So is it possible to use the 1.44 version on the 5150/5160 and configure it via jumpers or something to act as a 720KB?

Also, Is there a special floppy controller card that you need, and if so, what is it?

You help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're up to it, your best bet is to get the cheap one and reprogram it with one of the third-party packages. Quite a bit more flexible.

Do you have some more info on how exactly you reprogram it? A link to a tutorial or something?

The Gotek uses a STM32F105 MCU and there's a header to receive serial input. An inexpensive USB-to-TTL serial converter is all that's needed. See, for example, this

Google "reprogram Gotek" and revel in the many links. HxC and FlashFloppy seem to be the most popular firmware. (Google those, too)

The HxC gotek firmware bootloader is commercial and has a small fee. The firmware itself is free.

Flash floppy is free, but not quite as well-tested or as capable, but it is fully open-source.
