In 1991, Microsoft Corp endorsed the (then) new M88 as the world's first fully MS-DOS compatible handheld computer.

Unfortunately, this one does not power up completly. Screen turn black, but no other signs of booting.

Wow. I've never heard of this one before. Very cool. From the keys at the bottom, it looks to be have been well loved during it's productive lifetime.

Can you provide any more information on it? From what I can pull up information is very limited.

I am also still looking for. info.

What I have is from an announcement of Victor (after Tandy merged Victor and Grid Operations in Europe under the Victor name):

The GRiD M88 from Victor Technologies is a powerful new hand-held PC (245 x 85 x 45 mm). The operating system is MS-DOS 3.22, which is resident and executable in EPROM.

The GRiD M88 is one of a family of field-based systems designed to improve the speed and accuracy of data collection and analysis.

It is supplied with a cradle, which can be used for data transfer and battery recharging. The batteries are internal and do not have to be removed for recharging. The M88 has built-in ports that allow it to take input from other PCs, bar code wands, scanners and laser guns. These ports also allow communication to devices such as printers and modems. The display is a back-lit high-contrast LCD, which is CGA compatible and supports a 640 x 200 virtual screen that can display 8, 15 or 25 lines of 20 characters. The keyboard has 50 alphanumeric keys which emulate all of the 84 keys of a XT keyboard. The processor is an 80C88 running at 4.9 MHz and it is supplied with 640K of RAM. Mass storage is on battery-backed RAM cards; two slots are provided and each card can store up to 256 Kb.

A number of interfaces are provided: V24/RS232 serial port; external expansion bus; barcode interface port; inductive battery charging interface; and an optical interface to the cradle, which provides a parallel printer port. Built-in software includes VCOM communcations program, barcode decoders and other utilities; a developers' toolkit is also available.

Unfortunately, I do not have the cradle.
