Over the weekend I bought an IBM 6094 020 button pad to go with my RS/6000 system (7030-3CT) however aside from the unit I got nothing else.
I have uncovered mbbrutman's page (https://www.brutman.com/IBM_LPFK/IBM_LPFK.html) about serial converting the unit however aside from some text-only whitepapers I have not yet found any information regarding what cabling to use or even a pinout. Without pulling the machine out I recall there is a dedicated miniDIN-8 port on the back for such peripherals and also powers the LPFK directly, and the whitepapers for the machine specify....

...as the appropriate cable for attaching it. However again, no pinout.
Does anyone know if that cable is passive or do the pins differ on each end? Likewise, is there a source for the AIX utilities/driver? Google is hopelessly clogged up with crap from Deskthority, Reddit and Geekhack.

Check these links out for useful info. The last should give you cable pinouts for the attachment of the device to the machine. I’ve got a 7012-39H, but haven’t gotten around to actually setting up the Dials and LPFK that I’ve got. I have a Graphics Input Adapter installed, and have two eight or nine pin cables to connect to the adapter. I don’t remember off the top of my head.

The GIA provides power to the devices, if you connect via a serial port Im pretty sure you need an ac adapter to provide the power to the LPFK. IIRC, the cable connects to the serial port and in the LPFK side has a Y connector where the ac adapter would connect, injecting power into the line.

Once you’ve got it connected to the machine, you need to add a tty in smit to configure it for AIX.

Im not sure what apps besides CATIA take advantage of these things, should you have a copy let me know !!

Feel free to message me if you need any help.

What have you got installed in your machine so far? Post some pics.. I have a 7012-39H, your machine should be really similar to mine.

I was under the impression that the serial port marked "T" on the back was self-powered for supported buttons, dials and tablets.
My machine isn't anything special. CD, sound, network and video with I believe AIX 5.

Nice display.. which one is that?

The tablet port only supports the tablet, unfortunately. Which graphics adapter are you using? Are you using the Ultimedia for sound ?

Kind of hard to read - can you post higher resolution versions?

from “RS/6000 Adapters, Devices, and Cable Information for Micro Channel Bus Systems”

Completely unrelated, it seems the M-Video Capture is also supported on the MicroChannel RS/6000s
