Recommendations for a new motherboard

Darn! I could have sworn you'd said "you will see a definite increase in performance," and here I was just getting ready to plug in another pair of NICs and at least double my download speed... ;-)

Eh, good to know you're still over there on sidelines ready to stir the pot and add your usual constructive two-bits worth. That wasn't a claim it was an observation.
 
Just curious, why would a desktop need Dual nics? I have a server that has 10x Gigabit ethernet ports and Quad 2 Gb Fibre ports, I can see that for a DHCP server or web server but not so much if I wanted to use it for a IRC client box (IRC from a 4u server...energy efficient).

I dunno. I ran both of those Gigabyte boards, the 790 & 890, when I first got them with only one LAN connector hooked up. It was only when I got around to delving into their respective manuals that I hooked up both sides. I guess one answer would be that the motherboard business is very competitive and maybe they thought they needed some kind of an edge.
