I am not much of a collector so once I have restored a machine and maybe used it for some projects/experiments I am ready to swap it out for something new.

I have a very early rev-A IBM 5150 and its keyboard that I would like to trade.

The computer and keyboard have the same characteristics as the one shown here: https://www.minuszerodegrees.net/5150/early/5150_early.htm
The only exception is that this machine has a plastic speaker holder, not the metal one.

The computer has the original non-IBM logo single-sided disk drive which works. It has a RAM expansion card, parallel and serial port cards and the original IBM CGA display card.

The computer has been restored and works great and is in mint condition. The original boxes are also included. So is the original DOS 1.0 diskette which also works!

Im not sure what would be an equivalent trade for this machine of this magnitude... A car, or a vacation home perhaps? :). j/k

Well, please PM me with the machine(s) you would like to swap out for this one. I have never owned a PET, an IBM AT, or an S-100 computer. I love IBM 5155's...

Maybe show some patience..? You posted that only 48 hours ago...

It's not that tons of people are that eager to jump on any offer for a 5150.

If I were closer I’d probably make an offer. But it would probably be too low to be accepted. I already have an early motherboard, so I don’t really need the complete system.

I was hoping for a trade rather than $. Someone here may have a nice machine collecting dust they could trade out for this one.

I get not wanting to ship, but local pickup only really narrows down the potential buyers.
It's not out of the question, but it cost me >$200 in shipping when I received this lot... Definite bummer.

Plus I am located in the San Francisco Bay Area near Silicon Valley, so I would think there would be some local interest :)

I agree on the narrower pool though

It would be a nice deal/trade. I am in SoCal unfortunately both my 5155 or 5170 that I would trade are nearly inaccessible. I really need a better storage and cataloging system.... sigh.

Pleasanton - next door to you. I have never owned a PET, an IBM AT, or an S-100 computer. I love IBM 5155's...

Hmm, I don't have any of that except the IBM AT, which I do not want to trade, and the 5155 is the one I am actually missing from my collection (have the 5150B, 5160, 5162, 5170, 5140 and even the PCjr)

But I think I might have just about everything you'd need to put together an IBM AT, except for the case, and I'd be willing to trade that if it's of interest.

That wouldn't be my first choice

If you would like to just buy it, send me a PM.

You collection will be incomplete without an early 5150. :)

I can ship it, however it is stinkin' heavy and will likely cost close to $200. If someone would like to purchase instead of local trade, then how about $1,500 obo? I would still prefer a local trade though.

I think this machine is worth about as much, or more, than a mint PET setup which has a disk drive, manuals, etc. Ideally I would like to trade for something like this.

Still no interest? I can relate.. I have never paid more than a few hundred $$ for a vintage machine - same in this case. I prefer getting ugly machines which dont work then fixing and meticulously cleaning them up. Over time the machines start piling up, clogging closet space...

Funny... I'll bet there would have been more interest in this forum if I said it was in mint condition but didn't work! Lol!

I am pretty sure that's not whats holding people back.... Now if you PRICED it like a ugly non-working machine then the interest rate will probably go up.... You know inline with what you are offering for the 5153....

Yup true.. It was described and priced exactly as you said when I acquired it... that's why I have it. But it's restored now...

I suspect that folks in this forum have similar interests as me who seek machines in good physical, but nonworking, condition. Fun restoration projects at low-risk prices...

Edit: Thats why I was hoping a trade would work out. Some folk here may also have a mint machine they they purchased for $0 and are bored of and is collecting dust like mine is...
