The site is up and running. When I tried to download a file there is activity showing in the browser status bar. However, the transfer never starts and I don't get any error message.

[shameful plug]BetaArchive has a decent sized abandonware repository...[/shameful plug]

My own personal experiences with Vetusware have always been good as far as actually downloading the file.

Vetus is technically a warez site but it seems that for the most part they have managed to get a lot of crap past the radar.

I think we've had the Vetusware (and abandonware) discussion here before. How they run, or how much they are paying for bandwidth to distribute stuff that isn't legally theirs really isn't a good discussion topic for us.

Lots of bad links on Simtel.net, . . .

Thanks for the heads up. :) I normally only suggest the DOS collection which I personally use extensively but there are no links in those directories and the programs are "in stock". Except, of course, for the PCMag utilities, which we all know about. I've never as much as looked in any of the other directories. I guess I won't recommend those again. :)

Hmmm... Weird I signed up and haven't had any issues with them. My biggest beef w/ Vetusware is that there is no QC at all.

haven't tried simtel.net itself BUT i do use the dos archive
Which particular ftp mirror? The few I've tried there's nothing in the msdos directories. And getting 404 errors all over the place on other links.

Goodness. Now this works:- ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/

This was on the Swiss ftp mirror readme.txt:-
"The Simtel archive is no longer using mirror sites, so please turn to the
original site to find the files you are looking for:
http://www.simtel.net/

20091014 switchmirror@switch.ch"

That's funny about Simtel. It must have just happened. Anyway, these two sites work as of a few minutes ago. I downloaded files to make sure.

http://www.digsys.bg/simtel.net/msdos/index-msdos-pre.html
ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/

The second one has a seriously irritating format, but at least it is not as bad as the Simtel sites with the pictures. Those are a direct insult to any DOS user. :)

Anyway, Caluser2000, sorry you've had trouble with this. Here is another really good one:
