Vintage game suggestion

Dune 2, started the RTS craze. Any of the gold box SSI AD&D games, start with Pools or Radiance. Buck Rogers SSI games are fun as well. The first Command and Conquer was DOS based. Warcraft I/II. Wing Commander series. Mechwarrior 2 3dfx edition (DOS based).

The Secret of Monkey Island 1 & 2, and especially Prince of Persia 1 & 2.
 
Heroes of Might and Magic II had a great balance of strategy and action without getting bogged down into too many details that later games fell into.
