It is kind of bummer to lose this functionality; the old system made it relatively easy to drop links to the same picture/zip file/whatever into new threads as necessary without having to either search up a previous thread you dropped it into and directly put a URL to the old associated-with-the-post link or waste the space/time of having to upload it again every time.
