Also, I can only imagine what $25 shipping looks like ... these computers are easily, and frequently damaged in shipping due to shippers not understanding how heavy items work. I once had a shipper send me an XT in a box physically smaller than the dimensions of the computer itself, and then when it arrived smashed and dented, he tried to claim it was my fault lol.

For a complete unit with keyboard and IBM 5153 color monitor, that's not "way above" ebay prices. Also, it was $576. Shipping doesn't add to the value of the item.

It's a shame that monitor will never make it to the buyer in one piece. I don't know how the claims system works on Goodwill. There may be no recourse...

It most certainly adds to the cost of acquisition.

Sold for $350 https://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-PC-515...696912?hash=item5241967210:g:3BcAAOSwb5Vfuaa8

Sold for $99 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-IB...728281?hash=item4472055559:g:rp8AAOSwiXZgDOKm

Sold for $499 +free ship https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-IB...756363?hash=item28a11d7dcb:g:0tIAAOSwWeZfc5Ar

Just illustrating, you're missing some good deals on ebay if you dismiss it entirely because of a perception of price. Yes, some prices are higher and people have bought these items at higher prices, but good deals exist too. I think overall, ebay offers a good value and many auctions ultimately are good indicators of the prices a market is willing to pay, aka what we perceive the item is "worth".

Well, some of you may be interested to note that I am the one that bought that on GW.

It arrived VERY well packed. The only thing wrong with it was a memory error that was easily rectified with a 4164 chip of which I have an abundance of due to all the C64s I restore. "Way above" pricing? Not really. This unit is in NM condition with everything period correct and in full working order.
I have a multi-part series with it from receipt to adding an Geko to the external 37pin and putting it on my LAN so I can easily move files back and forth.

Do you have details in there on constructing the 37pin cable? I've been considering doing this, but haven't had the time to research the potential cabling issues.

It doesn't add to the value of the item, but you have to take it into consideration. Value and price are not the same thing. The buyer paid $604, plus Goodwill charges an extra fee on top of the final price+shipping. It all counts towards what you paid for the item. That is what prevents me from buying many items on ebay that would cost a lot of money to ship. A $100 item, that is only worth $100, is not worth paying $200 shipping to ship it to you because now your cost to acquire the item has risen to $300, or triple what the item is worth, and you will never recoup that money if you decide to flip it later. Even if you resell it for what you paid, you still have to give $200 of that money to the shipping company, so you are losing money on the sale (you paid $300, sold for $300, but $200 of the $300 you sold it for goes to the shipper leaving you with $100. You have just lost $200 on the sale. You would have to charge the $300 that you paid, plus another $200 for shipping on top of that, just to break even, and nobody in their right mind is going to pay $500 for a $100 item. Do you understand how it works, now?
